Two people have been reported dead and others sustaining injuries on Sunday following a motor accident involving a passenger bus along Mbarara Mpigi highway.
Police said a bus, Reg No UBE 970Q, belonging to Global Coaches company collided head-on which collided with a Toyota Premio, killing two of its passengers.
The driver of the Premio identified as Stephen Akankwasa is reported to be nursing fatal injuries at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.
Information from the Rwizi regional Police spokesperson ASP Samson Kasasira, indicates that the crash was caused by reckless driving on the side of the Premio driver who was overtaking and ended up ramming into the bus coach that had even gone off the road trying to avoid him.
The deceased are Melon Akankunda, 30, who died on spot and Jonan Masereka aged 23, who died on arrival at Mbarara Regional referral hospital.
“None of the passengers on the bus were injured”, Kasasira added.
Both motor vehicles were towed to Mbarara Central Police Station.
