Abdu Lumala follows Desabre, set to join Pyramids FC

Abdu Lumala is the new darling of Ugandan football after his display in the Africa Cup of Nations 2019 in Egypt.

The 21-year-old, who made his competitive debut for the Uganda Cranes at the above mentioned tournament, won over hearts of Ugandans with his direct running as he created several goal scoring opportunities.

After the show in Egypt, Lumala is now understood to be on his way to Pyramids FC, one of the top clubs of Egyptian football currently.

Pyramids is the same side that took-on former Cranes head coach Sebastien Desabre following Uganda’s elimination form AFCON 2019 in the second round at the hands of Senegal.

According to Kawowo Sports, Lumala will be unveiled at the Cairo based club on Saturday, July 27th, after jetting into the city the day before.

The details of Lumala’s move remain a mystery as per now but it is expected that he will sign a three-year deal at Pyramids.

Lumala joins them (Pyramids) from Swedish based side, Kalmer FF. However, he never settled in at Kalmar and spent the last half of last season at Syrianska FC.

Lumala joined the Kalmer based side in 216 following a successful spell at Mjalby AIF where he featured in 23 league games in 2015, scoring three goals.

The loan spell at Syrianska was the fourth for the 21-year-old as a Kalmar player after moving to Varbergs BoIs, Helsingborgs IF and IFK Varnamo, under the same set-up.

Lumala was sent out on loan by Kalmar to four different clubs.

Lumala’s early life

Lumala grew up with his grandmother in the village of Kataba since his mother had died when he was just a few months old and since the father was unknown.

When he was 10 he was given a Henrik Lersson-shirt as a birthday present by his aunt. In hope of receiving a better life his grandmother sent him away to the capital Kampala when he was 16. He took many jobs, mostly washing cars before he met a few white Europeans who managed to get him on a plane to Sweden.

He was left alone on the streets of Malmo and there he contacted by Migrationsverket. They managed to get accommodation for Abdu in the little town of Bromolla. There he started training with the local club Ifo/Bromolla playing in the Swedish 5th tier, but after not managing to find any football shoes he and a friend moved to 9th tier side Gualövs GoIF.

He was instantly made captain and after scoring 20 goals in 10 games big local club Mjalby AIF signed him in the summer of 2014. He played the rest of the year with the U17s and U19s.

Before the next season Abdu was moved up to the A-Team playing in Swedish second division Suprettan. He impressed, scoring 3 goals in 24 games being only 17 when the season started. The rumours of his talent spread and clubs like Malmo FF and Olympiacos wanting to sign him.

Abdu instead ended up in Swedish top flight club Kalmar FF.
