Journalist Andrew Mwenda has blasted President Yoweri Museveni and the entire Police leadership over the arrest and brutality of the Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine and his supporters by security officers.
Mwenda condemned the wave of violence by Police including highhandedness used the security forces in curtailing Bobi Wine on Monday, January 6, as the poplar MP launched his presidential bid meetings.
The veteran journalists warned both President Museveni and the Police of possible serious consequences.
This followed a highly watched and share video of Police firing tears gas in residential areas in Kasangati where Bobi Wine was arrested on his way to his consultation meeting in Our Lady of Good Counsel, Catholic Parish in Gayaza.
Increasingly popular opposition leader Bobi Wine was arrested for having the audacity to engage in voter consultations.
His outreach campaign was blocked by the police who fired teargas to disperse crowds.
The teargas and live bullets that rocked Gayaza badly affected the lives of babies and mothers in neighborhood.
Many of them could be seen abandoning their houses with their children running to get breathable air.
“Watching this video is saddening! As Museveni walks through Luwero, does he remember that this kind of Police/army brutality justified his bush war? Can’t NRM respond to Bobi Wine’s political moves with counter political mobilization? Andrew Mwenda tweeted and wondered further why security units resort to violent tactics.
The highly disturbing also attracted the attention of Bobi Wine international Lawyer Robert Amsterdam who warned Ugandan authorities on the arrest of his client MP Robert Kyagulanyi, saying it represents a dangerous escalation of human rights violations.
“The Museveni regime’s repressive conduct and attacks on Ugandan civilians must be denounced more forcefully by the international community. They are violating rights by forcing any/all political activities indoors only to disrupt with teargas, even with children present,” he wroteAdd your comments:
