Former Health minister and ruling NRM national vice chairman for eastern region Mike Mukula has said musician Joseph Mayanja aka Jose Chameleone should take care while venturing into politics.

Captain Mike Mukula had a wonderful Eid message for Jose Chameleone. He advised him to tread carefully in politics because it is a risky path.

“You risk eroding your financial base. Politics can destroy you,” Mukula cried out to Chameleone., 6 UPDF Soldiers, 11 Police Officers Arrested For Torturing and Undressing Women At Elegu Border

Mukula is currently focused on his aviation school and business having retreated from active politics.

We don’t know whether Chameleone will heed this warning from a Senior politician.

Musician Joseph Mayanja alias Jose Chameleone, in April announced that he will be contesting for the Kampala Mayoral seat in the upcoming 2021 general elections.

"Coronavirus is spread through sneezing, coughing or contact with contaminated surfaces. To avoid the disease, wash your hands with soap regularly, don’t spit in public, avoid crowds and stay home if you have flu. Protect yourself and your loved ones. Let’s fight Corona together. This message is from the Ministry of Health"

Speaking to one of the local TV stations in Uganda, the Valu Valu singer said his move was inspired by residents of Kampala who keep asking him to stand for the top political position in the capital city.

“I didn’t initially have this idea, but it started from the people of Kampala themselves especially the boda boda riders who keep asking me to stand, they say I am the right person for the position,” Chameleone said.

“If they have appreciated, who am I to turn down their request?”

Asked what he thinks the current city political leadership has not done right that he intends to change, Chameleone said, mayor Elias Lukwago should leave the seat for other leaders.

“It is not that Lukwago has not performed, but change is a fact of life. He should appreciate that there were other people in that position before him and other will come after him,” he said.

On whether he possesses the requisite academic qualifications for the position, Chameleone said he is fully qualified and dared whoever that doubts him to consult the national examinations body, UNEB.

Chameleone said he will be contesting as an independent candidate saying political parties create division amongst the people, yet his aim is to unite them.

During a music performance at Comedy Store in Lugogo , Jose Chameleone threw some hints regarding his intentions for the political job although not directly.

“I also expect those that doubt my abilities. But my strength is in those who believe in me and that there’s a contribution i can make,” the singer told revelers amid cheers.

“I too want to make my contribution the same way Bobi Wine has made his contribution. You understand me?” he said.

Chameleone now joins a long list of other politicians including MP Latif Ssebaggala, Abed Bwanika, Godfrey Nyakana and Gen Henry Tumukunde who have already come out to declare their intentions to vie for the seat.

In 2016, singer Dan Kazibwe alias Ragga Dee contested against contested for Mayor of Kampala but was floored by the incumbent, Erias Lukwago
