Speaking to one of the local TV stations in Uganda, the Valu Valu singer said his move was inspired by residents of Kampala who keep asking him to stand for the top political position in the capital city.
“I didn’t initially have this idea, but it started from the people of Kampala themselves especially the boda boda riders who keep asking me to stand, they say I am the right person for the position,” Chameleone said.
“If they have appreciated, who am I to turn down their request?”
Asked what he thinks the current city political leadership has not done right that he intends to change, Chameleone said, mayor Elias Lukwago should leave the seat for other leaders.
“It is not that Lukwago has not performed, but change is a fact of life. He should appreciate that there were other people in that position before him and other will come after him,” he said.
On whether he possesses the requisite academic qualifications for the position, Chameleone said he is fully qualified and dared whoever that doubts him to consult the national examinations body, UNEB.
Chameleone said he will be contesting as an independent candidate saying political parties create division amongst the people, yet his aim is to unite them.
During a music performance at Comedy Store in Lugogo , Jose Chameleone threw some hints regarding his intentions for the political job although not directly.
