Former Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura has dismissed as “contemptible” and “fake” claims he was admitted to a Kampala hospital over alcohol abuse.
Kayihura was last year removed from the helm of the law enforcement body and eventually detained at Makindye Military Barracks on charges related to the illegal repatriation of Rwanda refugees.
The military restricted the former presidential military assistant’s movements to Kampala and Wakiso.
Kayihura, however, was allowed to travel far away from the city with permission from the military court.
This past weekend, reports on social media indicated that Kayihura had been hospitalized over ill health.
Speaking on behalf of Gen Kayihura on Tuesday, Kampala Associates Advocates (KAA) lawyer, Elison Karuhanga observed: “The allegations doing rounds on social media and in the print media that Gen Kale Kayihura is admitted in IHK or that he is so ill and can’t talk or walk are nothing more than the product of fertile and idle imaginations.”
He said the allegations that Kayihura, 63, has “been ordered off booze” are laughable.
“Everyone who knows Gen Kayihura knows that he does not drink alcohol,” said Karuhanga.
A close family member of Gen Kayihura told this website he has never seen Kayihura drinking alcohol in his life time.
“I grew up in Gen Kale’s house. I am now 36 years-old. I have never seen him drink alcohol,” said a family member raised by Kayihura.
Karuhanga told us “These stories, like the many fake Kayihura stories should be treated with the contempt they deserve.”
Kayihura is said to be at his farm in Kashagama, Lyantonde District.
