Inside Story: Museveni to ‘Axe’ Top Ministers In Long-Awaited Cabinet Reshuffle this week

The President of the Republic of Uganda H.E Yoweri Museveni is this week expected to announce his new Cabinet, a State House source has revealed.

It is now three years since Museveni named his new cabinet on 6th June 2016 soon after swearing-in as President for his 5th term. This long spell without a Cabinet reshuffle has since last year caused speculation and anxiety among politicians.

According to a highly placed source, President Museveni will this week reshuffle his Cabinet for the first time this term where several ministers will face the axe.

“The President will reshuffle his cabinet this week now that he has finished his countrywide tours on operation wealth creation. I cannot indulge into the details, but just know very many [ministers] are going to cry,” a source who preferred anonymity said.


President Museveni on Sunday concluded his three-month countrywide mobilization and sensitization of people of Uganda on wealth and job creation with a public rally in Bundibugyo District, Rwenzori Sub-Region in Western Uganda.

According to a source, ministries that could be affected in this new reshuffle include; Ministry of Works and Transport, Ministry of ICT, Ministry of Lands, Attorney General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and others.

Museveni is also expected to fill the 3 vacant ministerial positions which include; Minister of State for Industry, Minister of State for the Elderly and Disability and Minister of State for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations.
