Eight people were on Wednesday remanded to Kisoro Central Prison over their alleged participation in the murder of the Kisoro based lawyer Isaac Sendegeya.
The Kisoro grade one magistrate Mr Raphael Vueni charged the eight accused persons of murder and remanded them until September 4 for further hearing of their case.
The prosecution told court that on July 21, the accused persons played different roles in the murder of Sendegeya. He was shot dead at around 2AM at his residence in Mukingo village, Nyakinama Sub County in Kisoro District as he was returning from Kisoro town.
The suspects include DRC nationals and M23 ex-combatants Charles Munyaneza, 33, alias Seruhasha and Claude Ndagizimana, 42, and Steven Mfitundinda, 29, alias Season, a Boda-boda rider in Bunagana Town Board in Kisoro District.
Other suspects are; Sikola Nyiramajambere, 59, and her husband Asuman Hagumakwiha, 59, Asuman Tito Hahumakwiha, Hadijjah Niyijena and Eliminate Mutesi.
Prosecution states that Munyaneza and Ndagizimana were paid Shs8 million by Nyiramajambere to kill Sendegeya after he won a civil land case against them. Mfitundinda is said to have used a motorcycle to transport assailants to execute their mission.
The other suspects; Hagumakwiha, Niyijena and Mutesi are said to have uttered death threats to Sendegeya after winning the same land case on behalf of his client.
Last weekend, Ndagizimana handed himself to Mbarara Police Station from Nakivale Refugee Camp and was driven to Kisoro Police Station, from where he allegedly confessed to having participated in the murder of Sendegeya.
