Minister Evelyn Anite recently floored a number of senior government officials in the Uganda Telecom Limited audit battle, and she said in a press briefing at her office on Monday that a number of meetings were taking place in Kampala to eliminate her.
However a list of officials being targeted by the alleged ‘mafia’ targeting prime properties of troubled Uganda Telecom (UTL) is being circulated on social media.
On the list features businessman Patrick Bitature, Investment and Privatisation Minister Evelyne Anite, Uganda Investment Authority board member, Morrison Rwakakamba and head of Privatisation, Moses Mwase.
Cases of government officials warning about plans to eliminate them are not new. Police officer Muhammad Kirumira alleged about a plan to take his life. He was killed a few months later by unknown assassins.
The Minister also says her movements are also being trailed by the same unnamed people planning to kill her.
“They are trying to follow me everywhere. My car is being trailed and I am not scared of them,” said Anite.
This comes just hours after Minister Anite said some people in government were planning to kill her.
“There have been meetings at Kampala Club, URSB (Uganda Registration Service Bureau) and other places,” said Anite in the press conference.
She added that her phone is also being tapped and print outs made from the telecom service provider.
“My phone is being tapped and at times I even hear them chatting on the background,” said Anite.
