Entebbe Chief Magistrate’s court has charged and remanded to prison two senior managers of Middle East Consultants with four counts of human trafficking. The company deals in labour export.

The remanded include; Benon Kunywana, 36, and Godfrey Kyalimpa, 48, who were charged before Entebbe Grade one magistrate Phiona Birungi.

Prosecution alleges that on February 12, 2019, both Kunywana and Kyalimpa, between Kampala and Entebbe international airport tried to traffick 50 people out of the country contrary to Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Act 2009.

The managers are also charged with forgery of documents and signatures from the ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development contrary to Section 349 of the Penal Code.

The accused are said to have forged signatures of Lawrence Egulu, an officer in the ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development to enable 50 people to travel out of the country.

While appearing before court, the accused denied all charges. Through their lawyer Ivan Wanume, the accused applied for bail. The magistrate Birungi, however, referred their bail application to September 11 when the case is expected to return to court for mention.
