The State Minister for Finance in charge of Investment and Privatization has lost to Dr. Charles Ayume for the Koboko Municipality seat in the ongoing elections for the ruling NRM party flagbearers.
According to results, Anite polled 7321 votes against Ayume’s 8089 in a hotly contested election.
Speaking to Chimpreports, Anite is quoted to have conceded defeat in the party election but attributed it to malpractice.
“I have accepted(defeat) and wish everyone the best but one of my agent’s house was set ablaze. Voters were ferried from outside Koboko and could vote as many times as possible,”Anite told the website.
“I can only point out these malpractices. These elections should have postponed. If the right thing was done, I could have won.”
Prior to the election, Anite has predicted a sail-through for her after declaring that she doesn’t view it as a tough race.
“There is nothing like a tough race. What I expect out of the election is wining by 80 percent. If you have hate because of the love, passion and work of Anite because my progress, close your eyes because it is very dangerous for you. You will collapse for nothing,” the minister said in an interview with NBS Television on Thursday.
Dr.Charles Ayume, the winner of the Koboko Municipality election in the NRM primaries is a son to the late Francis Ayume who also served as Solicitor General, Speaker of Parliament, and Attorney General.
The deceased also represented Koboko County in Parliament from 1996 until his death in an accident on the Kampala-Gulu highway in 2004.Add your comments:
