The Electoral Commission has officially registered Alliance for National Transformation Party, headed by former FDC President Maj. General Mugisha Muntu.
The new political party, cleared about a month ago was on Thursday granted a certificate of registration by the Electoral body. Eyalama has seen a copy of the registration certificate signed by Electoral Commission Secretary Sam Rwakoojo.
Mugisha Muntu who parted ways with the Forum for Democratic Change last year, confirmed the development on his social media account, “We have often been asked what we were doing: tasked to show publicly, our actions for change. But progress isn’t always measured by the amount of coverage it receives but by the hard work put in, often in private. Today we received our certificate of registration as a party.”
“ I would like to thank everyone that has patiently worked towards this day, keeping their eyes focused not on the wavering shine of television cameras or the newspaper headlines that often distract us, but on achieving our stated goals,” the former Army Commander added.
The registration marks the climax of a process started by the former FDC leader in September last year, when he announced he had quit the political party he co-founded and later led. Muntu’s decision to quit FDC followed his national wide consultations with several leaders. Muntu made clear his intentions to quit FDC after losing the Party Presidency to Patrick Amuriat during polls held in 2017.
The elections exposed internal party conflicts which Gen Muntu earlier warned, would force his exit if not solved. He later quit to form the New Formation, as he embarked on processes to register a new political party.
