The Youth day whose theme is “Youth Engagement for
Global Action” gives gives the world an opportunity to appreciate the potential of
the youth, their achievements and plans to better engage them to
progressively take action for their personal and country’s development.

“Additionally, the day provides an excellent opportunity to take stock of what has been done and what remains undone in positioning the young people to play a critical role in the social economic and political transformation of the country.”

Meanwhile, Nakiwala says her Ministry is committed to ensure the youth fully
and effectively participate in decision making processes and in shaping the lives of the communities they live in.

According to UBOS figures, more than 75% of Uganda’s population is below the age of 30, with the country having one of the highest youth unemployment rates at 13.3%—the number of youth actively looking for a job as a percentage of the labor force—in Sub-Saharan Africa.
