National Unity Platform (NUP) MPs Mohammad Ssegirinya and Allan Ssewanyana now face charges of terrorism and aiding terrorism, bringing the charge counts to six.

This is after prosecution, led by senior resident state attorney Richard Birivumbuka told the Masaka Grade One Magistrate Court on Wednesday that the state has amended its charge sheet, to add two counts.

According to Birivumbuka, the two MPs and four other suspects, with some others yet to be apprehended took part in the ongoing killings in Masaka and some other parts of the country.

“During the period of January to August 2021, this groups, together with some others still at large in the period of January to August 2021 took part in killing people,” Birivumbuka told court.

Birivumbuka added that prosecution is still investigating further into the case and asked that it should be adjourned to a later date.

Malende also noted that continued detention of legislators denies their electorate proper representation in the August House.

The Magistrate, Grace Wakoli however turned down Malende’s plea and adjourned the case to September 29, 2021.

The suspects will now head back to Kigo Prison until 29 this month.
