Buvuma District Woman MP Janepher Egunyu Nantume and her bodyguard are under police investigation over the death of a resident of Kiziba Village, Bugaya Sub County in Buvuma Island.

Sadiq Kizito, a resident and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party chairman for Kiziba Village was allegedly shot dead by the MP’s bodyguard, Martin Beema attached to Police VIP unit last Sunday.

Eye witnesses said Beema shot Kizito in the mouth as he tried to grab a megaphone from the MP in attempt to block her from addressing residents who had told her to leave.
Mr Charles Twine, the CIID spokesperson told this reporter that the MP and her bodyguard appeared at CIID headquarters in Kibuli, Kampala for questioning on Tuesday.

“It is true, the duo appeared and they were interviewed by the homicide department. They were put on record. We are now investigating the matter,” Mr Twine said on Thursday.

Mr Twine, however, declined to disclose what the MP and her bodyguard told police saying they are still investigating.

“Whatever reason it could be, let us first do our investigations. We shall let you know when the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is through with the file,” Mr Twine added.
The police spokesperson added that “the duo will always have to appear at the CIID headquarters whenever they are wanted to answer some questions.”
Kizito was buried in Namayingo District in eastern Uganda on Monday.
