President Museveni promotes Abel Kandiho,11 others to Major General

President Yoweri Museveni, the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, has promoted Abel Kandiho from the rank of Brigadier to Major General.

The President has also promoted 11 other officers to rank of Major General while 12 officers were elevated to the rank of Brigadier.

Five officers were promoted to the rank of Colonel.

The promotions were approved on recommendation of the Commissions Board, UPDF/defence spokesperson Brig. Richard Karemire said on Saturday.

Now Maj-Gen Kandiho has been at the centre of intelligence operations that are said to have dismantled cells officials say were aimed at destabilizing Uganda, by regional forces. His right hand man Col. C.K Asiimwe has been promoted to Brigadier. He head the CMI’s Joint Anti-Terrorism Taskforce.

Other promoted include Brigadiers Ddiba Ssentongo, Deputy Managing Director, National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), the business arm of UPDF, Hudson Mukasa who is the Defence attache to Kenya; Lucky Kidega, Defence attaché to Somalia; Innocent Oula, UPDF MP and head of Civil Military Cooperation; Geoffrey Katsigazi, the deputy deputy commander of the UPDF Airforce; Jack Bakasumba, the Joint Chief of Staff Uganda Police and Charles Okidi, Chief of Staff, Airforce and George Igumba, Chief of personnel and administration — all to the rank of Major General.

Brig. Karemire said some of the officers are “due for retirement” while other promotions were meant have the officers be aligned with their seniority, deployment and training courses they have attended.

24 officers were promoted to the rank of Brigadier.
These include Rebecca Mpagi, the director of Personnel and Administration at the Airforce among others
