A joint security team has started investigating the possible motives behind the attack on former Works and Transport minister, General Katumba Wamala.
General Katumba survived assassination on Tuesday as he was leaving his home in Najjeera, Wakiso District. In the same assassination attempt, his driver Haruna Kayondo and his daughter Nantongo Brenda died instantly. The bodyguard Khalid Koboyoit however, survived with no injuries.
The investigation team comprised police agencies and UPDF intelligence organs started investigations yesterday, each performing a different role.
Security sources told this site last evening that the investigation team of police shall be headed by CID headquarters homicide department with the help of crime intelligence to analyze information, police flying squad to assist in operations and CCTV surveillance team to provide forensic information.
The source added that the UPDF investigations shall be headed by Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence with the purpose of coordinating all tracking maps using the CMI tracking system.
The CMI is also tasked to study the element of terrorism since the assailants could be agents of a terrorism group.
In the statement issued by police, Maj.General Paul Lokech said that a joint task security team is actively investigating the targeted drive shooting which occurred on 1st June 2021 which claimed the lives of two victims and injured the third occupant.
