Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda has refuted allegations that there are mafias in government who are targeting to assassinate some Ugandans.
Rugunda said that he is not aware of any mafia group in government who in particular allegedly want to kill State minister for Privatization, Evelyn Anite.
Anite on Monday revealed how mafias are baying for her blood over her involvement to ‘rescue’ ailing Uganda Telecom Limited (UTL).
“I have also seen these allegations in the media, however, I am not aware of the existence of any mafia group in the government of Uganda,” Rugunda said.
Rugunda’s response was prompted by Kasilo County MP Elijah Okupa’s inquiry during the Prime Minister’s Question Time. Okupa asked Rugunda to clarify on allegations that mafias in cabinet want to kill Anite.
Earlier, Anite said that mafias are threatening to kill her for exposing alleged fraud at UTL and demanding for an audit.
“The plan by the mafias is to take Anite out of the picture, I might die but history will judge them. You know the mafias, they are the ones who have been blocking the audit. Do not live in denial,” Anite said.
