Uganda Airlines Saga:Deputy Speaker Oulanyah Asks Museveni to Sack Works Ministers

Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah has tickled President Yoweri Museveni to sack his ministers especially the ministers in charge of Works and Transport following the Uganda Airlines saga.

Oulanyah was on Friday bitter on the floor of Parliament following a special sitting to debate on the Supplementary schedule No.2 where government is requesting for an additional Shs280bn to cater for investment costs of the revival of the new Uganda Airlines.

Oulanyah’s anger was triggered by the Works minister Ntege Azuba who tabled wrong documents on registration of Uganda Airlines before withdrawing them with an apology saying the registration process was done in error. Minority report revealed that government owns only 0.0001% of the total shares in Uganda Airlines but Azuba insists government owns 100% but could not avail correct documents to that effect.

This did not go well with Oulanyah who blasted Museveni’s ministers saying some of them need to be sacked.

“Let us admit that there have been gross errors. From the speaker’s chair, you wonder if there is a government and there are people thinking ahead. We wouldn’t be in this situation. It is unfortunate that am not the president, I would have sacked a few people,” Oulanyah said.

However, Parliament approved supplementary schedule for an additional Shs280bn to cater for investment costs for the revival of Uganda Airlines.

This comes after the planes’ manufacturer gave Uganda Airlines an ultimatum of up to end of March to clear costs of the first batch of the two Bombardier CRJ900 aircrafts that are ready for delivery amounting to $41.5m (Over Shs153bn)
